SEKISUI’s advance plastic molding technology and long-developed hardware and software technology for rotating biological contactor equipment were combined in order to develop wastewater treatment technology and the epoch-making cubic latticed contactor.
The wastewater treatment equipment ESROTAE provides stable and effective wastewater treatment while conserving space and energy and at a reduced initial cost.

Principles of ESROTAE

This system purifies wastewater using a microbial film adhering to a cubic latticed contactor. The contactor slowly rotates with approximately 40% of surface area submerged in the wastewater. Oxygen is absorbed from the air and pollutants from the wastewater and the pollutants are aerobically decomposed. While new microorganisms continuously increase on the disks, old microorganisms with decreased activity drop off the disks.

Wastewater can be effectively purified due to the large surface area.
  1. 1.Large surface area during operation
    Because the basic form of the cubic latticed contactor is a small cylinder, as load increases, the biological sludge thickens and surface area increases.
  2. 2.The projecting structure can provide a large amount of oxygen
    The rotating movement of the projecting structure toward the axis of the cubic lattice creates aeration by crashing into the water surface and the whirlpool phenomenon.
  3. 3.Large contact effectiveness
    As the whole cubic latticed contactor has permeability, sewage can flow freely toward the axis through the lattice without any dead space. The whole contactor functions effectively.
  4. 4.Abundant biological sludge along with macro substance transportation

    By the lay and direction of the axis, local turbulence is created and only molecular diffusion is needed for substance transportation for fluctuating biological sludge and fluid biological sludge, along with macro substance transportation. Substance transportation to the fluctuating biological sludge and fluid biological sludge formed on ESROTAE is exponentially larger than molecular diffusion and has a high efficiency in wastewater treatment.

  5. 5.Treatment standard can be freely set
    Since the treatment standard can be freely set, it is ideal for pretreatment in existing activated sludge methods and sewage exempt facilities.
    1. (1) Wastewater can be stably treated within the range of 200-600mg/L BOD concentration.
    2. (2)Investment (facilities/land) that accompanies increased production can be kept to a minimum and the water treatment capability of an existing facility can be improved.
    Due to the compact structure of the units, space can be effectively used by 2 stories arrangements and platforms.
