Installed Examples of Rotating Biological Contactor

Case1: Chemical Factory (River effluent)

Wastewater volume 1008m3/day
(unit:mg/L)
  Rotating contactor
water influent
Effluent
BOD 1000 20
SS 300 20
[Shiga Pref.]
  • First installation in 1980,
  • second 1989,
  • third 2003,
  • fourth 2004
Elimination of bulking and stable treatment realized.

With a sharp change in water quality and resulting bulking, stable wastewater treatment could not be achieved.

After installation of a rotating biological contactor, filamentous bacteria increased on the surface of disks, and a large volume of sludge on the surface of the disk with good deposits in the deposition tank

Case2: Meat Processing Factory (Sewage Effluent)

Wastewater volume 960m3/day
(unit:mg/L)
  Rotating contactor
water influent
Effluent
BOD 800 170
SS 300 170
[Kyoto Pref.]
  • Installation in 2004
Stable treatment realized below sewage effluent standard values (BOD 200mg/L).

Effluent standard value for sewage effluent is BOD 200mg/L, but stable operation at the water value was difficult.

By rotating biological contactor method, treated water quality could be freely determined by designing the load. Stable treatment was realized with sewage effluent standard value (BOD 200mg/L).

Case3: Food Factory Pre-treatment equipment (river effluent)

Wastewater volume 300m3/day
(unit:mg/L)

Effluent
BOD 1500 500
[Kagawa Pref.]
  • First installation in 1994,
  • Second 1999
Overcame the worsened water qualities of wastewater treatment accompanying increased production.

Although the amount of wastewater emitted enhanced with the increased production, since there was no space to increase wastewater treatment equipment, the treated water quality degraded.

The rotating biological contactor was installed by building a platform in the parking lot.
